Match Report - Long Eaton United
Match Report
Kettering Town Elite’s first league game in the East Midlands Womens Regional Football League Premier Division was a tough introduction for the newly promoted side.
The Poppiessess looked strong in the first 10 minutes, but Long Eaton came back strongly and scored six minutes later.
The hosts didn’t let the goal put them off and pushed hard to find an equaliser but their Nottinghamshire opponents pushed equally as hard.
In the second half, Kettering were determined find a quick goal but an equally determined visitors ensured that they were going to stay ahead, and managed a well worked goal just after the hour.
A very physical game by both sides kept the referee on his toes and a consolation goal seven minutes into extra time, by Mikaela Welford, gave Kettering a slim chance of levelling.
