Match Report - Stamford AFC
Our Under-18's came up with an excellent performance to see off AFC Stamford and kick off the new season in style on Thursday evening.
After being a goal down inside 10 minutes, we breezed to a 6-2 victory on a cool evening at Latimer Park with four different players getting on the score sheet.
We signalled our attacking intentions from the outset, controlling the play for long spells and restricting The Daniels to only the occasional half-chance.
The defense suffered from a momentary lapse in concentration in the 10th minute, with Zak Munton giving Stamford the lead, before the impressive Matthew Pickard equalised with 20 minutes gone.
And ten minutes later we doubled our advantage as Tom Stanmore nestled the ball into the net. A third for The Poppies came via winger Jordan Orosz before the break
The intensity was raised once more after the break, as the hosts scored after the hour to increase their lead , when Connor Bellamy netted after five minutes from entering the game.
The Daniels pulled a goal back on 72 minutes when Tom Phippsy scored, but we finished in a composed manner to ensure Stamford could make no further inroads.
Pickard restored our three-goal cushion just after the 75th minute mark to complete his brace seizing on a defensive error, and sent the ball spinning into the bottom corner of the net from close range.
There was still time for Bellamy to grab his brace after a fast-paced attack to complete the scoring four minutes from time.
