Match Report
Jim Freeman’s U-21's Development side edged out MK College by the odd goal to claim their first win since back-to-back defeat in the league.
Lewis Carpenter and Toby Shoyoye scored as we fell behind, before Ben Baker continued his fine goalscoring run this season to score what proved to be the winner for his side, which helped them to fifth spot in the table.
However they had to do things the hard way as they fell behind on 15 minutes when a long ball over the top left The Poppies defence napping and Ronlep Kobi raced onto it to finish well when faced one-on-one against Micky Kirby.
But just as it looked as though The Poppies would go into the break trailing, Carpenter managed to restore parity on the half hour mark. The midfielder was quickest to react to the ball and neatly stroked the ball home.
Five minutes after the interval, MK College was celebrating again, After some dallying in the Kettering defence, a fine through-ball was raced onto Jonny Jefcoate who powered the ball into the back of the net.
The Poppies looked the more likely to find another goal and on 65 minutes they got the equaliser they deserved when Shoyoye cut inside and finished well from an acute angle.
As 18 minutes from time The Poppies grabbed their winner when Alessio Mastrangelo missed his spot kick, but there was Baker to smash home the rebound, and they held on to collect another hard-fought victory.
