Match Report - Eynesbury Rovers
Our U-18’s was narrowly beaten 3-2 at home by Eynesbury Rovers in a game that was full of chances.
It was a mixed first half from both teams as they enjoyed their share of chances with numerous shots being saved. Eynesbury enjoyed a good period of possession for the first 20 minutes, before Kettering’s Matty Pitchard’s fine strike in the 24th minute, from outside the area, left Eynesbury’s keeper hopeless and put the hosts ahead.
It was a quiet few minutes for both teams, until the 33rd minute, where the young Poppies were unlucky to concede a penalty which resulted in Oliver Lee scoring.
The half ending 1-1 and from the start of the second half Eynesbury were on the front foot. A through ball caused havoc within The Poppies defence which lead to a strike into the bottom right corner of the net from Josh Roberts, on 52 minutes.
A few minutes later, Eynesbury squandered a golden opportunity to increase their lead as a shot from the left side of the box went wide.
Kettering’s bad luck continued as an in-swinging corner, from the right, resulted in a frantic scramble leading to Eynesbury increasing their lead to 3-1, in the 70th minute.
This sparked a reaction from Kettering as they became the dominate side and enjoyed a great spell of possession, and did well to create chances.
The hard work paid off as in the 82nd minute, Conner Lee was able to head home from close range but unfortunately, Kettering’s valiant effort in the closing stages was not enough to get the equaliser.
