Match Report - Yaxley
Kettering Town's Under-18s were held to a goalless draw by Yaxley in their latest Northants Senior Youth League encounter on Thursday.
Following the win against Stamford last weekend, the young Poppies sought to make it back-to-back victories against The Cuckoos - and came close to doing so on a number of occasions.
Kettering started well and worked the home goalkeeper in the early stages but were unable to make their pressure count.
In the remaining half an hour of the first period a battle for possession began between the two sides and chances were few and far between as the teams cancelled each other out.
After the fixture’s restart, Darren Long’s side showed an increased intensity but weren't able to carve out any clear chances.
Much like in the first half, the remaining minutes of the encounter saw the game open up substantially allowing the hosts to have their chance at going on the attack.
A sudden increase in pressure from The Poppies forced Yaxley to retreat to their own half, but The Cookoos defended well to keep the scores level.
The final scoreline, though, was unaltered following the referee’s conclusion of the closely fought encounter.
