Match Report
A mainly second string Kettering side were swept away by a mainly first string St Neots side tonight in the League Challenge Cup.
(If the Saints joint match programme covering the Kettering and Chesham games was to be believed, our squad looked full of Chesham players and the Chesham squad looked full of Cambridge City players!- so some of our fans wondered who was actually playing for us.....).
Three goals in the first half from skipper,Tom Ward (21 minutes),Declan Rogers (26 minutes), and Sam Mulready (40 minutes) nullified a good first 20 minutes for the Poppies when Paul Malone,Jordan Wilson,Nathan Bobowicz and Aaron O,Connor all had chances to score and Kaid Mohamed saw his free kick saved.
The second period saw further home goals from a Declan Rogers penalty after 67 minutes,Tom Wood (71) and Ryan Hawkins (78). In truth Kettering never looked like scoring after the opening 20 minutes and St Neots had full control of this game.
Kettering youngster,Ethan Lee suffered a nasty looking injury after 65 minutes and had to be helped from the field.
Congratulations to Referee Dan Hanna, who issued no cards, despite some enthusiastic challenges from both sides, taking on board the relative importance of this game.
