Kettering forced two early corners on the left and from Liam Bateman’s second cross, Brett Solkhon headed in to give the visitors a 4th minute lead. Coalville’s first corner on 11 minutes, courtesy of Solkhon’s sliced clearance, was headed clear. A minute later a good move involving Nathan Hicks and Lindon Meikle saw a dangerous low cross go begging. Then Hicks crossed low from the left- but Solkhon lost control in a good shooting position. Liam Bateman and Michael Richens fired over the bar and James Brighton’s cross was just over the bar. Paul White was called into action on 23 minutes as he saved a shot from a triallist. His next save was a good one as he denied Messiah McDonald with a save off his legs. Coalville forced two late fruitless corners as Kettering went in a goal in front. Half Time: Coalville Town 0 - 1 Kettering Town Substitutions were plentiful in the second half as both teams gave other players and triallists a chance. The home team had the better of the first 20 minutes of the half and were having a large number of free kicks- putting the Poppies under pressure. Coalville put a free kick wide of goal and White made a good save from a substitute. Kettering’s best effort from Hicks was blocked after good work by Richens. On 62 minutes Coalville hit the bar with a header but were soon level as a minute later McDonald converted a cross from the right. White was out to collect a through ball as Kettering remained under pressure, and it was something of a surprise as they took the lead on 70 minutes. Hicks’ free kick was cleared and pounced on by Michael Richens, whose gentle left foot shot crept in at the right post. Coalville forced two corners in quick succession, which were well defended, and it was Kettering who finished the stronger. Aaron O’Connor worked openings for two shots. The first was just wide and the second flashed across goal and past the right post. Finally Richens’ shot was also wide. Full Time: Coalville Town 1 - 2 Kettering Town Attendance estimated at 85 (Poppies fans estimated at 20 ) Poppies Man of the Match: Michael Richens
