Match Report

The Poppies first pre season friendly ended in a creditable 2-2 draw at higher ranked Brackley Town. The home side swept into a 2-0 lead after just five minutes with a Lee Ndlovu brace. It was 2-2 at half time as Aaron O’Connor’s 7th minute strike and Rhys Hoenes’ 37th minute penalty evened things up. The second period saw a plethora of substitutions- but no goals.

Tonights Teams: Brackley Town: Danny Lewis;Ellis Myles;Alex Gudger;Shane Byrne;Luke Graham;Gareth Dean;Glenn Walker;James Armson;Lee Ndlovu;Andy Brown;Adam Walker. Substitutes used: (starting after 60 minutes) Matt Lowe; Connor Franklin; Darrius Brown; Steve Diggin;Greg Kaziboni;Jordan Williams;Jordan Lee.Unused:Dan Farrell (G/K). The Poppies were rocked by two goals – both from set pieces- and both converted from close in by Lee Ndlovu in the 3rd and 5th minutes. Within two minutes Rene Howe headed on for Aaron O’Connor to run past the defence and fire past Danny Lewis to reduce the arrears. The crowd of 337 looked as if they were in for a goal fest at this stage – as the game settled. On a lovely playing surface, both teams played football and the game was certainly entertaining for the rest of the half. Liam Bateman got forward to try a 35 yard shot which was just wide of the target and Paul White saved well from Adam Walker. Aaron O’Connor nearly scored as his shot took a deflection off of Luke Graham- but the ball went just over the bar. Kettering equalised in the 37th minute. Rhys Hoenes was tripped in the penalty area and got up to convert the resulting penalty. White then saved from Ndlovu and finally in the half a cutting Kettering move could not be converted as Ben Milnes fired over.

Half Time: Brackley Town 2 - 2 Kettering Town

Kettering made 5 immediate second half substitutions as Brackley stuck with their first choice eleven. As Marcus Law gradually introduced all his substitutes, the task for Kettering became harder although there was clear 100% effort from all the substitutes. Kettering chances at goal were few and far between this half as Brackley had most of the possession. A Shane Byrne free kick on 58 minutes was touched onto the bar by White and cleared. Seven minutes later Ndlovu missed a sitter at the far post from Glenn Walker’s cross from the left. Substitute,Steve Diggin’s 71st minute headed was marginally wide and again Byrne’s free kick on 77 minutes hit the left upright and was scrambled away. Joe Burgess cleared away danger after a defensive mix up and then Kettering’s best chance of the half saw Ash Eales glance a header wide from a great position. Adam Walker had a last chance for Brackley but dragged his shot wide from a clear chance.
