Having made appearances from the bench in the previous two cup matches Aaron O'Conner made his first league start of the season for Kettering.  With Declan Towers reporting sick Luke Graham was introduced into the back three as a straight swap. On a beautiful sunny day for November with clear blue skies and a pitch looking in pristine condition Kettering in blue shirts and shorts with white socks kicked off against the hosts wearing all red with yellow trim.  Needham had the first shot at goal from Luke Ingram but his effort from 25 yards was well wide.  Needham won the first free kick of the game when Michael Richens was penalised. This resulted in a better attempt on goal from distance for which Paul White had to make a save falling to his left to push the ball firmly away. Kettering's first attempt on goal came after 18 minutes when after good approach play involving AO'C and Marcus Kelly, Lindon Meikle found himself in space with time some 23 yards out but his strike was well over the bar.  Neither side was playing well at this stage with Needham seeming to be adopting a cautious approach and playing deep and Kettering seeming to struggle to adapt to playing with two forwards on the pitch at the same time. Both teams were guilty of numerous mis-placed passes leading to a poor spectacle,  On the half hour mark Needham were awarded a free kick from about twenty yards out following another Richens foul.  The referee didn't  speak to the Kettering man and with little noise coming from the crowd the atmosphere seemed similar to that of a pre-season friendly.  Four Needham players were standing near the ball the first two ran over the ball and the third played the ball sideways for the fourth to put the ball behind for a goal kick.  Shortly after Rhys Hoenes made a probing run down the left hand side where he had a coming together with Joe Marsden  leading to both players ending up on the floor.  Marsden, Needham's top scorer, filling in at right back was in a lot of pain and it looked like he might not be able to continue but after treatment managed to play on although he was hobblling for a while after.  Kettering seemed to be getting to terms with their amended tactics and applied pressure all the way to half time.  Lathaniel Rowe-Turner was pushing forward on the left as was Dion Kelly-Evans on the right with both players testing the Needham defence with deliveries into the box. Hoenes made a good run into the box from the right and shot towards goal. The ball was not hit with a lot of power and Jake Jessup instead of grabbing the ball and holding it pushed the ball weakly towards the penalty spot where fortunately for him no blue shirts were lurking.  In time added on Marcus Kelly weaved his way forward and played the ball to the unmarked Milnes in the box who skied his effort well over the bar with a frustrated O'Connor standing just beyond.  When Mr Sannerude brought the first half proceedings to a halt both sets of supporters were hoping for a much improved game in the second half.

Half Time:  Needham Market 0 Kettering Town 0

Kettering came out for the second half with a positive attitude and forced their first corner in the first minute of the half which was put behind for a second by their No 5 Keiran Morphew who was Neeham's best player of the afternoon. Shortly afterwards he threw himself in the way of a fierce Kelly drive to painfully prevent the ball continuing on it's trajectory towards goal.  Needham attacked down the right hand side and Ingram played a deceptive deep ball  evading everyone towards the far post but DKE was reading the game well and made a good covering header denying Mills any chance to capitalise on the opportunity.  Kettering broke down the right hand side and played the ball to Kelly who looked up and saw LRT in acres of space on the left, he received the ball and took it towards the byline and with the defenders flooding back deep to cover the threat of AO'C and Rhys he threaded a firm ball across to the far side of the box to the unmarked advancing Lindon Meikle who picked his spot and side footed it first time across the keeper who was moving to cover his left hand post to score inside the right hand upright. 0-1 Kettering 55 mins. Needham were staggered by the goal and made their first substitution but Kettering kept up the pressure. Richens played AO'C in with a clever through ball and the resulting shot came off a defender for a unproductive corner.  Rico tried a shot from long range but it passed harmlessly over the bar. Rhys attacked down the right and with now having the luxury of a strike partner played a ball across the six yard box which was just out of AO'Cs reach.  Just after the hour mark Kelly won the ball in his own half and fed it on to Lindon advaced sightly and waited to play an inch perfect lofted ball into the Needham box. Keiran Morphew made a full length stretch for the ball but fell short but not so Aaron who hit it first time on the volley whilst falling to power the ball past Jessop giving him no chance of stopping it.  0-2 Kettering 63 mins.  Needham's response was to make a double substitution but within a minute of that change the game was settled Rhys on the left and side this time worked himself into position to have a shot but his effort was headed clear but only to Lindon in space 30 yards out.  He hit a text book volley to give the Needham keeper no chance. 0-3 Kettering 70 mins.  Three goals in fifteen minutes had blown Needham Market away.  Rhys was still looking for more and made another defence testing run into the box but this time Needham passed the test and cleared the ball to safety. On 73 minutes Aaron made way for Andrea Borg and everyone at the club must be ecstatic at the manner of his return from injury.  Kettering were still pressing forward though but mistake by DKE in Needham's half allowed a swift counter attack and a ball from Mills on the left found Baker in the box having introduced himself into the space between Durrel Berry and LRT, his free header was wasted though and was well wide. With ten minutes to go Brett Solkhon and Ben Toseland were introduced replacing Kelly and Hoenes.  Kettering were in full flow attack mode now and Needham were pinned deep in their own half.  With five minutes to go Borg made a challenging run towards goal and was just shaping up for a shot after passing Kamanzi when he was brought down by the defender.  The referee awarded the free kick but took no further action capping off a quite day for himself with no cause to even speak to a player with regards to their behaviour let alone issue a caution.  Ben Milnes took the kick but his attempt was over the bar which seems to be a recurring theme for him when he takes a kick from a central position rather than one out to the side and giving him a slightly different angle of attack.

Full Time: Needham Market 0 Kettering Town 3

Another win on the road for Kettering.  After a lack lustre display in the first half, half time adjustments made for very different second half with Kettering producing a dominant performance,  The first goal appeared to break Needham's resolve allowing Paul White to have another quiet afternoon in the country and another clean sheet.  A very similar performance to the St Neot's and Alvechurch games.
