Match Report
In a close fought game at Latimer Park tonight The Poppies lost 2-1 at home to League Two side Luton Town.
Luton took the lead on 18 minutes through Omar Rowe with Silvano Obeng equalising 10 minutes later.
The winner came in the second half through ex-Kettering youth player Jack Marriott in the 57th minute.
The mainly young Hatters showed an abundance of pace and running to test The Poppies in the first half, but goal mouth action was at a premium with keeper Scott Dutton making an excellent save in the 33rd minute. Kettering had two decent chances apart from Obeng's excellent finish. Firstly Obeng got clear but visiting keeper, Gooch saved well and just before the break, Elliot Sandy saw a shot well blocked.
The second period saw Jamie McAlindon on and making a good save on 50 minutes, only to the same 6 minutes later - but the rebound fell nicely for Marriott to convert. Marriott then hit a post before being substituted.
The Poppies had chances to equalize, as Saul Williams got clear, but fired wide and then laid on a chance for Will Grocott who fired over. A late Dubi Ogbonna goal bound effort was blocked by great defending.
