Match Report
The Poppies fell to their first defeat of the pre-season campaign with a narrow loss at Brackley Town in the Newlands Shield. A very equal contested game where the Poppies dominated for long periods, finally took a deserved lead through Chris Smith after 50 minutes. Two brilliant saves from the Saints Keepers (one in each half) kept the scoreline in Kettering's favour. Callum Powell hit the bar with a stunning drive but the hosts equalised 6 minutes later through Gareth Dean. Paul Cox's side thought they had gone ahead when Trialist no7 scored from close range, only for his effort to be ruled out for off-side. Brackley's Kevin Wilkin brought fresh legs on for the final 15 minutes, which did the trick for the Saints. Brad Rolt (no20) drilled in from close range after 78 minutes after a defensive lapse by the Poppies.
This was Brackley's first win over the Poppies in any game since 2006, attendance 202ish!
Kettering players involved were - Jackson Smith (GK), Gary Stohrer, Chris Smith, Connor Kennedy, Callum Powell, Rhys Sharpe and Decarrey Sheriff. Jordon Crawford, Kyle Perry were absent, plus a hosts of trialists made the side up in both halves.
