Match Report

The Poppies friendly at Tamworth today was a long drawn out affair due to a number of lengthy injury delays, sensible drink breaks and many substitutions - mainly in the second half.

The facts were that the game was won 1-0 by the home side, courtesy of a second half penalty, converted by substitute, Dan Creaney after visiting keeper Cameron Gregory brought down Kyle Finn. Both goalkeepers had a relatively quiet afternoon as both teams failed to regularly test them.

With Manager Lee Glover not at the game the team was taken by Frankie Fry and Rory Prendergast and with Kettering choosing not to release a team list, it was difficult for the Club Officials and visiting fans to determine who was playing for the visitors.

The best that I can do is list who I think was playing from the start:

Cameron Gregory

Trialist

Lewis White

Brad Gascoigne (withdrawn at half time)

Ben Toseland

Rhys Sharpe

Gary Stohrer

Keaton Ward

Jordan Graham (withdrawn at half time)

Trialist (withdrawn at half time)

Trialist

And the start of the second half replacements were: Andre Wright, Decarrey Sheriff, Neo Richard-Noel. During the half five trialists replaced Ward,Stohrer,White, Sharpe and a first half trialist. Not featuring were the three players out at South Bend Lions and Mansfield loanee, George Cooper.

BRIEF MATCH SUMMARY

FIRST HALF:

There was an early substitution for the Lambs as the injured Jordan Clement was replaced by Dexter Walters.

Both sides found it difficult to breach opposition defences with the Ex Rushden and Diamonds defenders Alex Collard and Liam Dolman keeping Kettering at bay and the three Kettering central defenders, Lewis White,Brad Gascoigne and Ben Toseland doing the same at the other end.

Rhys Sharpe was instrumental in the Kettering set pieces with his corners and long throws- all of which proved ineffective.

The goalmouth action in the half saw Collard head a clear chance from a free kick straight at Cameron Gregory, A Sharpe long throw headed wide by Brad Gascoigne and a Gift Massa 35 yard shot just clear the Kettering bar.

SECOND HALF:

Kettering’s Lewis White headed over from a free kick. Home keeper Jas Singh did well to dive to his left and save Andre Wright’s shot. Cameron Gregory saved a Gift Mussa shot and pulled off a great save with his legs from Ben Bailey’s point blank header. Then Singh palmed a Rhys Sharpe cross/shot over the bar and from the corner, Lewis White headed wide from a decent position.

The penalty was a clear penalty as Creaney sent Finn clear and Gregory hauled him over as he went past. The only Kettering players to play the whole game were Gregory and Toseland.

Attendance 302 (Kettering fans around 30).
