Poppies beat the Steelmen

Kettering Town 2-1 Corby Town

Kettering Town: 1 Harry Tanser, 2 Andre Ellington, 3 Ross Eady 4, Cameron Dunbar 5, Fred Amankya, 6 Liam Honour, 7 Nathan Best, 8 Jack Norman, 9 Anasu Mumbune, 10 Tom Armstrong 11, Corey IronMonger

Subs:12, Logan Killgallon, 14 Ross Irvine ,15 Sam Sullivan (Connor Lightfoot pulled out with an injury)

The game started at a frantic pace with Corby quicker to the ball and stronger in the tackle. Though they had a lot more possession didn’t create too many chances with Harry Tanser only having one save all game. With Corby only looking threating from set pieces. However they did score midway through the first half. the ball was crossed, not cleared striker had an easy job to score. Kettering should have dealt better with the ball into the box. Corey Iron Monger off injured from a bad challenge Logan Killgallon replaced him.

HT: 0 1

In the second half it was KTFC on the front foot first to the ball using it better. Limiting Corby to the big punt up field for most of the half. As the pressure mounted the Steelmen were content to clear it anywhere. Ross Irvine came on for Tom Armstrong, Sam Sullivan on for Jack Norman. Withjust 20 minutes to go the Poppies changed to a 3 5 2 formation with Anasu Mumbane and Nathan Best playing up top. This began to pay dividends with Mumbane going close (should have scored) before he got the equaliser with 6 minutes to go following up from a Killgallon shot that rebounded of the crossbar. Kettering decided not to settle for the draw and stayed in 3 5 2 as felt we could get the winner which we did from Sullivan.

FT: 2 1

Standout players Andre Ellington first half one of the few players to match Corby’s aggression. Fred Amankya marshalling and talking throughout the game. A good performance from all the squad.
