The versatile left sided Kettering born player came through the ranks at Northampton Town and was named in the first team squad at the start of the 2000/01 season.

Carruthers joined Corby Town for his second spell in June 2015, following a season at Brackley Town in the Conference North. 

He made his debut as a substitute for The Cobblers against Port Vale in April, 2001 as a 17-year-old and ended the campaign with 3 appearances to his name. In 2004/05 he played twice for The Poppies first team. 

Chris was a first team regular in his first two seasons with Bristol Rovers, scoring once in 45 games in 2005/06 and making 54 appearances the following season – the last of which was at Wembley Stadium in the League Two Play-off Final win over Shrewsbury in May, 2007. 

The following month, Chris signed for Oxford United before making loan appearances at Crawley Town and York City. His move to Bootham Cresent became permanent and after 52 appearances, he moved north to Gateshead FC where he became a regular along with Gary Mulligan. 

In the 2012/13 season, a move to Hereford United before initially signing for Corby in the 2013/14 season, becoming club captain and playing a key role in their FA Cup run and named Corby Town Player of the Year. 

He departed for Brackley at the end of the campaign.
