A History of Northamptonshire in 100 Objects

As we look forward to the new season 2025_2026 season, we also look back at a key moment in our club’s history as January 2026 marks the 50th anniversary of Kettering Town’s pioneering and ground breaking innovation of the introduction of shirt sponsorship in England.

There will be more on this momentous moment in British sport prior to the anniversary. However, to kick us off, we have a request from Bryan Lewin.

Last year, Northampton Museum Gallery announced a new exhibition: A History of Northamptonshire in 100 Objects, which would “span the rich and diverse history of Northamptonshire, from ancient artefacts to contemporary landmarks”.

Historians, researchers and enthusiasts were invited to participate, by submitting an object as Guest Curators in this ” unique opportunity to shape our shaped historical narrative”

Bryan Lewin submitted a replica of the famous ‘Kettering Tyres’ Shirt, with background information, and he was pleased to be informed that this item would form part of the exhibition. Other items included are various and wide ranging from prehistoric fossils to cutting edge F1 technology.

The exhibition is planned to last from 20 September 2025 to 8 February 2026 and selected objects and their stories will not only be featured in the museum exhibition but also across a range of multimedia platforms including a book, website, mobile app and podcast.

Guest curators are now asked to research their submission and provide as much information as possible.

Therefore, Bryan has asked the KTFC faithful whether they are aware of the whereabouts of an ‘original Kettering Tyres Shirt or provide any background details and he would be grateful to hear from you. Bryan can be contacted on 07920108300 or bryanlewin@gmail.com
