Gary Stohrer Leaves Poppies

The Club would like to announce that, after discussions with midfielder, Gary Stohrer has decided to leave the Poppies. This was a mutual decision taken by both parties, but one that is right for Gary’s future career.

Gary has been a fantastic and loyal servant to Kettering Town both on and off the field. He has a long and distinguished career with the club amassing 253 first class appearances since his debut against Slough Town in 2017, making his 250th this season on New Year’s Day. He scored 9 goals (the last a rare headed one at Stratford Town in a dramatic 3-3 draw) in eight seasons at the club. Gary was the only member of the current squad who gained promotion out of this division in 2018-19 still with the club.

Gary was inducted into the ‘Kettering Town Hall of Fame’ at the 2021-22 Player Presentations, becoming only the seventh player to achieve that feat since the re-organisation of the Football Pyramid for the onset of the 1979-80 season.

Gary came back this season after a long-term injury and gave his usual 100% for the team. He was a player you could always depend on. To gain fitness he played at Daventry Town, and latterly, Wellingborough Town. However, whilst Gary will be a big loss to the club, he now feels the time is right to move on. Everyone at the club would like to sincerely thank Gary for his sterling performances and extreme professionalism throughout his time at The Poppies and wish him all the very best for his future.
