Its going to be a blustery reception for the visit of The Blues to Latimer Park as our Southern League Premier Central campaign continues today. Leiston, who are eighth in the table six points behind the Poppies after playing fifteen games, are only two points off the play off places and come into the match with two recent wins (St Ives1-3 away) and (a home win 2-1 Alvechurch).
Kettering Town are looking to bounce back after the disappointment of a last gasp equaliser against Bedford Town last Saturday and the dismissal of Devon Kelly-Evans. Goalkeeper Billy Johnson returns to LP. He has the unfortunate statistic as the fewest number of games played to concede 50 goals for the Poppies (21) games (and that included 3 clean sheets and 2 penalty saves.
The Poppies haven’t beaten Leiston at home to date. Leiston’s last league defeat was on Sept 24th at Bedford Town 3-4 (seven league games ago) and in fact only one defeat in the 11 games in all comps.
Leiston have only lost 3 league games this season all away from home namely, Stratford, Banbury and Bedford.
However, the Poppies are nine league and home games unbeaten, the best run since 2015-16 where there was an eleven-game unbeaten run when the Poppies finished sixth in the league. At the same stage last season, the Poppies had 16 points, compared to 33 to date.
Enjoy the game. COYP!
