Poppies vs The Ives Match Preview

Despite the 0-1 Poppies defeat to St Ives in the FA Trophy both sides have endured a challenging start to Autumn and seek to restore their early season form.

The Ives, after losing to Ilkeston 3-1 away on Saturday in the FA Trophy, have only lost once in their last five games away to Bury Town 1-0 and have secured two wins home wins (against Alvechurch 2-0 and 1-0 versus the Poppies) and two draws (2-2 away at Leiston and 1-1 at home to Bishop’s Stortford). Despite this, they have only won one of their last five league outings. This leaves St Ives thirteenth in the form table with five points from a possible fifteen. However, whilst their home form is good (fifth in the form table), The Ives’ away form is poor having only achieved four points from six games. They reside in thirteenth place in the league with sixteen points from twelve games played, three place below KTFC who are in tenth with twenty points from thirteenth matches. With the departure of summer signing Jamal Adams making the move back to Coventry Sphinx, manager Ricky Marheineke will be looking to revamp their attacking line up.

With a new management team in place for Kettering in the shape of recently appointed Liam McDonald and his assistant Nick Green, ably assisted by the returning Terry Thompson and James Logan in the dugout, expectations are high. In the last five games, Poppies form has dipped with four losses (0-1 Needham Market; 4-0 Redditch Untied; 2-0 Alvechurch; 1-0 St Ives) and a single win away at Banbury 0-2. This leaves the club seventeenth in the form table with four points from a possible fifteen. However, we are only one point off the play off places with six points separating the top ten, although some of the leading clubs have games in hand due to cup action.

Liam McDonald has moved quickly to secure the services of exciting forward Kai Williams, formerly of Workshop Town, and full back Blaine Rowe from Stourbridge, to bolster the squad ahead of our game today whilst Anthony Stuart has left the club.

The top five teams are back in league action with league leaders Spalding United, fresh from their midweek cup defeat to Corby Town, are away at eight placed Alvechurch, Harborough are also away at Royston Town; Quorn are at Bishop’s Stortford, Redditch United play Barwell and Stratford entertain Real Bedford.

It is Remembrance Saturday today at Latimer Park, so please ensure that you arrive early to pay your respects prior to kick off.

Enjoy the game.
