Another Preseason Poppies Win & A Clean Sheet at Desborough Town

The Poppies played their second pre-season friendly against Desborough Town at the Waterworks Field on Saturday.

In extremely hot conditions, Simon Hollyhead’s side ran out comfortable 2-0 winners in front of 248. The Poppies side included Paul White, Andi Thanoj, Connor Stanley, Leon Lobjoit, Ismael Fatadjo, George Forsyth, and new signings Edimond (Eddy) Oppong, the rest of the starting XI were trialists.

The Poppies controlled the first half and went ahead after 17 minutes with a well drilled drive from Oppong from just inside the penalty area, giving the keeper no chance.

The second goal arrived on 37 minutes from trialist No 3, with another well taken shot to the keepers left hand side, again from just inside the penalty area.

There were further chances with Lobjoit unlucky not to add a third.

The second half witnessed a complete change of line up, with Wes York, Lewis White, Kai Fifield and keeper Josh Humphrey brought into the side, the rest of the eleven were made up of trialists. Again, the Poppies had the majority of the game but with Desborough introducing more of their first team squad made it more of a battle. No further goals were added although Fifield and York had good chances to increase the scoreline.

It was a good work out for the majority of Hollyhead’s first team with only Jamar Loza (on holiday) and Callum Powell unavailable on the day.

The Poppies next fixture is against Moulton FC (away) in the Northants Senior Cup 1st round on Saturday 19th July, a 15:00 kick-off.  Full details will be announced on all social media channels.
