With only Jamar Loza (holiday) and Callum Powel (injured), Simon Hollyhead fielded all of his first team squad with new signings Shane Flynn and Levi Andoh starting the game.
It was a relatively quiet first half, the hosts hitting the bar with a long-range effort after 20 minutes and Kettering’s Eddy Oppong hitting the post 10 minutes later with a long drive. Again, he had a great chance when confronted with a one-on-one chance with the Magpies keeper, but the elevated bounce and lack of control let him down. Leon Lobjoit thought he had put the Poppies ahead with a good chance just before half time but the keeper made a good save denying the striker.
Half-time 0-0.
Wes York replaced Jambang at the interval and his injected pace began to unsettle Moulton. The Poppies went ahead after 50 minutes from a corner with a well directed header from Lobjoit giving the keeper no chance. Kai Fifield replaced Andoh and the tempo stepped up. Shane Flynn had a good opportunity to put the Poppies further ahead but his shot went wide.
The travelling Poppies faithful did not have to wait too long as Oppong scored a beauty from close range after an excellent mazy run from Fifield. The Poppies were in total control, Lobjoit saw an ambitious lob hit the bar from 25 yards as Kettering pressed for a third.
On 72 minutes Lobjoit scored his second of the game with a solo run, he rounded the keeper and slotted in from an acute angle putting the game to bed.
The only worry for Hollyhead came in the last 10 minutes of the game when Captain George Forsyth took a heavy tackle, grounding him. He was helped from the pitch and the Poppies saw out the reminder of the game with 10 men having used all of their substitutes.
Attendance 246.
