It was a wet night in Worcestershire as the Poppies entered the field of play, with Paul White unavailable, Callum Powell injured, and Lewis ‘Lazarus’ White having recovered from Saturday’s injury on the bench.
The hosts started brightly with Ethan Dunbar bringing keeper Josh Humphrey into the game early doors, but the young custodian delt with chances as the home fans smelt an early lead.
On 10 minutes Wes York was put through but the home keeper, Jenson Kilroy (on loan from Walsall), denied him. Â On 4 minutes, Humphrey produced a great save parrying a shot from just outside the penalty area for a corner. Â Both sides had further chances to break the deadlock, Dunbar in particular for the hosts, and Leon Lobjoit turned and swivelled on 16 minutes, seeing his shot fly just over the bar.
The Poppies went ahead on 21 minutes when Shane Flynn found some room on the left-hand side and let loose a long-range drive which beat the keeper at his near post. Simon Hollyhead’s side started to impress their authority, with York producing another overhead attempt which forced Kilroy into a brilliant full-length diving save to his right-hand side, pushing the ball away for a corner. Jamar Loza was causing a threat every run he made along with the impressive Eddy Oppong, Ismael Fatadjo and Lobjoit who almost made it 2-0 just before half time.
Half Time: Evesham United 0-1 Kettering Town.
Fifield relaced Fatadjo. After 54 minutes Hollyhead began to ring the changes with Connor Stanley, Thanoj, York and Oppong making way for trialists. On 62 minutes Lewis White replaced Levi Andoh.
Fifield was as busy as usual firing a shot into the side netting on 62 minutes, while the home side hit the bar and the follow up was well blocked by the impressive Humphrey.
On 69 minutes, George Forsyth and Lobjoit were replaced by trialists, just leaving Humphrey, Flynn and Loza from the original starting eleven. On 79 minutes Fifield hit a 20-yard strike that was tipped over the bar by Kilroy, and Loza had a shot parried by the keeper from close range.
With the number of changes made the game lost its intensity from a Poppies point of view as the hosts chased an equaliser.
The game concluded on 89 minutes when a defensive mistake on the edge of the penalty area gave Evesham’s Levi Steele a simple tap in to make it 1-1.
